2021: A Year in Review

State and County

AIDSVu released interactive maps and data visualizing the HIV epidemic at the state and county level for 2019, further illustrating how the HIV epidemic impacts communities at a fine geographic level to enable targeted and effective policy and programmatic interventions.

Major data updates this year include:

• 2019 state- and county- level HIV prevalence and new diagnoses maps.
• Updated HIV maps alongside maps of social determinants of health – such as poverty (2019), high school education (2019), median household income (2019), income inequality (2019), and people without health insurance (2019).
• State-level HIV care continuum maps.
• Updated state and county-level PrEP and PnR maps to 2019.

City

AIDSVu released 2019 Zip Code-level HIV data and interactive maps for around 50 cities across the U.S. These new maps visualize disparities in HIV prevalence, new HIV diagnoses, and HIV care continuum indicators across different demographic groups such as age, sex, and race/ethnicity.

The launches include:

• ZIP Code-level mapsshowing HIV prevalence (2019) and new diagnoses (cumulative 2015 to 2019) for around 50 US cities, and ZIP Code-level maps showing late HIV diagnoses (cumulative 2015 to 2019), linkage to HIV care (cumulative 2015 to 2019), receipt of HIV care (2019), and viral HIV suppression (2019) for more than 35 U.S. cities.
• Enhanced city-data profile pages, including new diagnoses and HIV care continuum data, as well as the percent of people living with HIV by age (2019), for almost 50 U.S. cities.
• Enhanced service locators available on interactive maps, including HIV prevention, testing, Ryan White care services, housing opportunities for people living with AIDS, NIH-funded HIV prevention, vaccine, and treatment trial locations.

HIV Criminalization

To further our commitment to making HIV-related data widely available, easily accessible, and locally relevant, AIDSVu launched new data and comparison maps visualizing state-level HIV criminalization laws and HIV prosecution in partnership with the Center for HIV Law and Policy.
