Recently, the Gilead COMPASS Initiative released a report, “Using AIDSVu to Examine HIV Prevalence, Access, and Service in Atlanta, Georgia and Houston, Texas” that outlines how the Initiative used AIDSVu’s maps and data to visualize aspects of the HIV epidemic in Atlanta and Houston.
COMPASS’ goal in developing this report, which includes information on maps and transportation, was to visualize the impact transportation has on the epidemic.
COMPASS plans to help develop trainings and use it as a tool to show community partners how to understand what the intersection of access to services and transportation looks like in their communities and how to use this tool to advocate for their community; as well as other organizations providing capacity building on the importance of providing this to their partners.
They also plan to use the report as a tool for education and advocacy, as well as a conversation starter with policy makers and funders looking at barriers and facilitators that access has on the availability of dire services needed to those that are most impacted and need it the most.
