Video – Visualizing the HIV Epidemic

September 18, 2017

For more detailed statistics about the HIV epidemic in the U.S. and how AIDSVu is working to combat it, watch our video, Visualizing the HIV Epidemic in the U.S.

AIDSVu works to make HIV data widely available, easily accessible and locally relevant. HIV disproportionately affects different areas of the country. Nearly 40,000 people are diagnosed with HIV every year, so it is important to stay informed about areas where the epidemic is more prevalent. 1 out of 7 people, or 160,000 people living with HIV are unaware they are HIV positive.

Communities with high poverty, income inequality and lack of health insurance are at a higher risk of being impacted by HIV. But new prevention efforts and scientific advances could make an AIDS-Free Generation possible in the near future. Research proves early treatment of HIV can decrease the risk of transmitting the disease to a partner by 93%, in addition to known ways that reduce the risk of HIV transmission, such as using condoms.  Everyone can take steps to mitigate the impact of HIV. Take advantage of AIDSVu to get educated about HIV in your area.
