World AIDS Day 2014

December 1, 2014

On December 1, we recognize the global impact of the HIV epidemic through World AIDS Day. There are approximately 35 million people worldwide living with HIV, more than 1.2 million of whom are in the United States. While we have made strides in the fight against HIV, we must sustain these efforts and do more to reach the goal of an AIDS-free generation.

HIV is a global epidemic with local impacts.  Every 9 and a half minutes, someone in the U.S. is infected with HIV and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 6 people do not know their status. Today, you can do your part:

  • Educate others about the impact of HIV. Use AIDSVu’s maps to learn how HIV impacts your city or state, and spread awareness by sharing this graphic on social media.
  • Visit AIDSVu.org/testing to find a testing center near you. Know your status, and encourage friends and family to do the same.
