National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

February 5, 2016

Each February, AIDSVu recognizes the disparate impact of HIV on African Americans on National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. In the United States, African Americans continue to bear the greatest burden of the HIV epidemic, accounting for 44% of all new HIV diagnoses.

AIDSVu visualizes the latest HIV data across the U.S., raising awareness of the geographies and populations most at risk.  Understanding your risk is just part of the battle, but only you have the power to stop the spread of HIV. Do your part to prevent HIV, and take action:

  • Get Educated – Share this special infographic from AIDSVu to educate and raise awareness of the impact of HIV on the African American community.
  • Get Tested – The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested, which is critical for prevention. Find your local testing center.
  • Get Involved – Check out AIDSVu’s downloadable maps and resources, or explore the national-, state-, and local-level maps to better understand the HIV epidemic.
  • Get Treated – If you or someone you know is living with HIV, AIDSVu’s care services locator can help to find the right treatment resources.
