National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

March 10, 2016

Each year on March 10, AIDSVu recognizes National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD), a day to educate friends and family about the impact of HIV on women and girls in the United States.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), women account for nearly 25 percent of all people living with HIV in the U.S. While 9 out of 10 women with HIV have been diagnosed, just half are engaged in care, and only 3 out of 10 women with HIV have achieved viral suppression, While testing and linkage-to-care efforts have significantly reduced mother-to-child HIV transmission, there is still more we can do to stop the spread of HIV among women.

There are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Educate Others. Share this graphic with your friends, family and networks to help raise awareness about the impact of HIV among women. Use the hashtag #NWGHAAD to join the online conversation.
  • Know Your Status. Use AIDSVu.org/testing to find a testing location near you.
  • Explore the Maps. AIDSVu maps allow users to explore the HIV epidemic at the national, state, and local levels, and filter by demographics, including gender.
